With coordination with Dubai Airport Freezone Authority, International Center of Islamic Economy successfully hosted 2nd Regional Awqaf Sukuk Industry Workshop – Islamic Social Finance Initiative “Smart Waqf”. The workshop saw participation of decision makers, government dignitaries, international experts, such as Secretary Generals of Awqaf Canada, United State and New Zealand, as well as CEO of Global Food Exchange and Trade Commissioner of Global Affairs Canada; the workshop was also honored by Head of OCHA GLO, representatives from UN Refugee Agency and Other United Nation Organizations.
The move to keep workshop for 2nd Regional Awqaf Sukuk Industry – Islamic Social Finance Initiative “Smart Waqf” falls within the framework to support the wise vision of H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai to transform Dubai into Capital of the Global Islamic Economy.
The objectives of the workshop was to validate developed “Smart Waqf” and discuss the methodology of issuing the world 1st Awqaf Sukuk of US Dollar 1 Billion via the Securities Commission Malaysia.
The workshop provided a forum for faculty from Institution networks worldwide to develop collaborations through the exchange of research results and ideas. This workshop examined research and development related to current and emerging issues associated with Sukuk planning and execution of Smart Waqf both locally and internationally.
